Authentic Hot Chocolate

The Original, Essential Comfort Food

Hot Chocolate!

It's essential that the chocolate is fair trade and organic, otherwise it's no comfort to anyone. And it's important for the hot chocolate to be hot, as in brought to a boil on the stove, never ever made in the microwave.

Trust me! It's worth it. When you find out how easy it is to have the real thing, and how delicious it is, you'll never use a hot chocolate mix again.

Directions are for one cup. To increase the amount of hot chocolate, multiply the ingredients by the number of people lined up holding out their cups.

Hot Chocolate Ingredients and Directions

1 - 3 tsp organic fair trade powdered cocoa

1 Tblsp raw cane sugar, or to taste

1 Tbslp milk - dairy or non-dairy. Soy, hemp, almond are good - rice milk doesn't work for hot chocolate because it's low fat

In a small saucepan, make a paste with the cocoa, sugar and 1 Tblsp milk.

Add 8 - 12 oz organic dairy or non-dairy milk

Turn the burner on high, and bring to a boil, stirring with a whisk.

For a gourmet touch (not truly necessary, I assure you), add a few drops of vanilla or almond extract, top with whipped cream or marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Or all of the above.

Hot chocolate tastes great with popcorn and a movie, and cookies, if you're not afraid of a few more calories!
